The German-Jordanian University has been founded in 2005 by a Royal Decree, in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding reached between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The German-Jordanian University is the 10th public university in Jordan. It follows the model of the German Hochschule, Universities of Applied Sciences, characterized by their philosophy of strict relation to practice and their application oriented approach to knowledge transfer.

The University temporary campus is located at the Royal Scientific Society. By the end of 2008, the University will move to the permanent location at Al-Mushaqqar – Madaba governorate.

The duration of study for the offered programs will be four to five years. Programs are designed according to the model of the German Hochschule, Universities of Applied Sciences. The university draws on the German expertise, in terms of its policies, regulations, teaching, textbooks, study plans, and training opportunities.

The students can apply either online or by getting an application form any post office in Jordan.
Students from outside Jordan can apply online, after which they must send all the required documents and a non-refundable application fee (25 JDs) by registered mail to the German-Jordanian University.
Students from Jordan can purchase the application form, for a non-refundable application fee (25 JDs), fill it properly, and send it along with the required documents by registered mail to the German-Jordanian University, or they can apply online as specified above.
The application forms can be found at any post office in Jordan starting Monday, the 6th of August.
The online application form can be accessed starting Monday, the 6th of August too.
For students applying through the post offices, accepting their documents will end on Thursday, the 23th of August.
For students applying online, accepting their documents will end on Thursday, the 30th of August.

Students applying to the schools of Technological Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Natural Applied Sciences must have obtained a high school degree Tawjihi - Science, Industry, and IT branches - with a minimum grade of 80%, or equivalent. Students applying to the School of Managements and Humanity Sciences must have obtained a high school degree Tawjihi with a minimum grade of 70%, or equivalent.

Students applying to the Master of Business Administration must have obtained a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Sciences, or Economics with a minimum grade of 70% (Good) or equivalent.

The German-Jordanian University follows the education model of the German Hochschule - Universities of Applied Sciences within the standard credit hour system. The program curricula is structured according to the following distribution:

German Language = 18 Credit hours
Field training (in Germany) = 15 Credit hours
Bachelor thesis = 6 Credit hours
Free Elective = 3 Credit Hours

Talal Abu Ghazaleh School of Business
Total Number of credit hours ~ 150
General requirements = 24 Credit hours (University Requirements)
Program requirements = 16 Credit hours (Mathematics, Economics, Business Administration)
Specialization ~ 86 Credit hours (Core theoretical, Tutorial Sessions, and Hands-on-experience practices)
German Language = 15 Credit hours
Bachelor thesis = 6 Credit hours
Free Elective = 3 Credit Hours

The number of students to be accepted in each program will be about 40 students, and 20 for the MBA program. The student capacity of the German-Jordanian University will be limited to about 5000 students.

The medium of instruction is primarily English, gradually shifting to German in the 4th and 5th years. Therefore, students need to sit for an English language proficiency test upon acceptance to the university.  Based on his/her results in the placement test, the student will enter one of the 6 levels of the English labguage courses. The test can only be waived if the student has a TOEFL score of at least 173 CBT or 61 iBT or 500 PPT. Having this score or above will exempt the students from the first four levels. All students must take the obligatory English 201 and 202 courses to graduate.

Junior students must pass a German language proficiency test for an eligibility to spend their 4th year of study which includes 6-months internship industry program in Germany. Students who possess a high level of German language proficiency may not be required to take German courses at the German-Jordanian University.

1-   Students studying at other universities in Jordan and abroad can transfer to the German-Jordanian University under the following conditions:

-          They must fulfill the admission requirements that are applicable to the students admitted in the relevant year

-          The university from which the student is transferring must be an internationally accredited university.

2-   Students holding an associate degree from Jordan, having passed (Al-Shamel) exam are qualified in principle to apply. Students holding an associate degree from outside Jordan, they have to get an equivalency from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for eligibility to transfer.

For Jordanian students, The tuition fees for one credit hour are (80 JDs) for program requirements courses, and (60 JDs) for language courses

For Non-Jordanian students, The tuition fees for one credit hour are (80 JDs) for program requirements courses, and (60 JDs) for language courses

It should be noted that every enrolled student shall be responsible for all the financial expenses during her/his residence in Germany.

Students can apply for scholarships through the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. A number of scholarships will be available to the Tawjihi distinguished graduates from the high schools of the local community. Small loans will also be available to students with special financial needs and these loans will be managed according to the laws and regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education in Jordan.

Each student needs to spend the 4th year in Germany - one semester at a German University and 6-months field training in the German industry. The German-Jordanian University will do all necessary arrangements on behalf of the students.

Only students who have completed the 3rd year and who have passed the German language proficiency test are eligible to travel to Germany.

The medium of instruction in Germany is German, and a student must be fluent enough in German to study at the university and to communicate and interact with the people in the university and in the industry in Germany.

Living costs range between 700 and 800 Euro each month including rent. The German-Jordanian University will help in arranging accommodation for its students in Germany. The probability that a student would get a monthly allowance in exchange of his/her work at the industry in Germany is very high.

All students are required to spend their 4th year of study in Germany, at least for practical training. This requirement, however, may be waived under special circumstances. Please note that the German semesters differ from the Jordanian ones concerning their length. At the Hochschule the winter semester 2008/2009 will begin on September 22nd 2008 and end on February 13h, the summer semester 2009 will begin on March 16th and will end on July 17th. 2009

The University will help in accommodating arrangements for female students. In the permanent location of the University at Al-Mushaqar in year 2009, there will be special dormitories for female students.
