Introduction |
|
Visual
impairment has a significant impact on early growth and
development. To compensate for their vision deficits, children
need to use specific tools and learn appropriate strategies in a
variety of aspects of their daily life. Although widespread in
Western countries, vision rehabilitation programmes are scarce
in Jordan as in the rest of the Arab world, which can be
explained by the fact that the region suffers from a general
lack of expertise on the needs of people with visual disability.
By bringing international experts to Jordan, the present
programme offers a unique opportunity to professionals in the
health and education sectors to improve their practice and
possibly develop new services not only in Jordan but also in the
rest of the Arab world.
This programme brings together all the disciplines of
vision rehabilitation to form a series of courses that provides
the students with the basic knowledge required for understanding
the needs of children with visual disability in a practical
framework.
The courses include:
-
Visual system and eye diseases
-
Visual functioning
-
Optics and optical devices
-
Sensory functioning
-
Education and rehabilitation
-
Intervention and service building
-
Practical work and case
studies
