Introduction

The B.Sc. Program in Architecture / Interior Architecture is an artistically and technically oriented one. Students will have basic education in Architecture in the first two years, and then specializing in Interior Architecture. The Study Plan emphasizes a three-dimensional and spatial approach to creating humane and ecologically sensitive interior environments for living, working, and recreation. Students will learn to plan and design the internal fittings of residential, commercial, public, and special purpose buildings, with emphasis on set design, exhibition and museum design, and the adaptive re-use of existing buildings.  The backbone of the study plan is the interior design courses. These are supported by a large variety of practical courses in skills and technology; and theoretical courses in the history and philosophy of architecture, interior design criticism and esthetics, and furniture design.

Through its interactive learning environment, the program prepares the students for critical involvement with real practice and enhances their awareness and sensitivity to social responsibilities, sustainability and environmental intervention, and the benefits of research and innovation. Emphases are placed on teamwork, networking, and the integration of education and the market place.

Objectives

The Program in Architecture / Interior Architecture aims at acquainting the student’s by the creative problem solving abilities through the following:

  • Providing students with comprehensive coursework in the visual, functional, socio-economical, and technical aspects for cultivating creative thinking and artistic sensitivity.

  • Developing students’ visual, written, and oral communication skills, and enhancing their creative use of advanced computer software packages related to their specialty.

  • Strengthening students understanding of the technical aspects and environmental considerations related to design.

  • Emphasizing management of design projects, organizations, and teamwork.

  • Emphasizing coordination and relationship among all design specialties.

Career Prospects

Graduates work in residential and contract design within corporations, institutions, and architectural and interior architecture firms. The program offers the students by proper work opportunity in professional offices as part of the Study Plan. They learn how the profession works and obtain direct knowledge of professional practices. They realize the expectations, opportunities, and gain a realistic perspective on career interests and aptitudes. By graduation, they will be more valuable professionals. Graduates of Architecture / Interior Architecture are highly employable and command some of the best starting salaries in Jordan and regional countries

Program Details

Program Structure:

The program is organized on a 5 years Study Plan as follows:

  • Year 1 -3: Study in Jordan

  • Year 4: Studies and Internship in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland

  • Year 5: Studies in Jordan

  • Summer Program: Optional

Language of Instruction:

  • Year 1 -3: Courses will be mostly conducted in English (an exceptionally in Arabic). Arabic equivalents of local technical terms in the building technology will be provided to the students. Students will be also subjected to intensive courses in German language.

  • Year 4: Studies in German speaking countries.

  • Year 5: English and German.

Credit Hours: 175 C. Hrs

Contact Hours: 330 C. Hrs.

Admission Requirement:

The Jordanian General Secondary Certificate (Tawjihi)

For non-Jordanian Certificates:
An equivalency issued by:

The Jordanian Ministry of Education for Jordanian Students.

The Ministry of Education in the country that issued the Certificate for non-Jordanian students.

Minimum required average for admission (Department of Architecture) : 80% in the Scientific Stream

Admission interview with portfolio / example of works.
