Plant Engineering & Management (Industrial Engineering)

Introduction, Objectives, Area of Employment, Faculty ,Study Plan

Introduction

Plant Engineering and Management is the application of techniques and principles to the improvement, design, and installation of systems that involve people, materials, information, energy and equipment to provide efficient production of goods and services. To evaluate and work with these systems, knowledge and skills in the mathematical, physical, and social sciences are required. The program activities form a bridge between management goals and operational performance, and is more concerned with increasing productivity through the management of people, methods of business organization, and technology than are engineers in other specialties, who generally work more with products or processes.

The program provides an interdisciplinary educational foundation for its graduates to understand, find and implement solutions with a System Engineering perspective; students are provided with the essential tools to consider the technological, business and human aspects of problems in complex systems. Production -like automotive, electronics, future, garment, house products, machine parts, ceramic, cement, chemical, food and beverages, etc., and service -like banking, consulting, finance, health, tourism, transport, etc. Graduates of the program are prepared for employment in technologically and socially complex organizations, or for pursuing their research interests at graduate level.

The program recognizes the importance of computer aided techniques, and emphasizes computer use in most of the courses. Three senior courses are designed specifically to encourage students to practice and broaden their knowledge in real life applications. The program also stresses communication skills as an important aspect of students' professional and intellectual development

Objectives

The target group, namely engineers and business school graduates, equipped with the knowledge and practice of this training program, will have a much more broader vision and scope. They will gain the ability to manage socio-technical affairs more intelligently. Quality management, human resources management, technology management, project management, information management, engineering economy, among others, are disciplines which have emerged or reformed recently and through this program the target group will catch the chance to refresh and update themselves.

The objective of the program is to provide engineers and scientists with the skills, knowledge and attitude necessary for leadership in the management of current and future generations of technology. The program lends the methodological strength of science and engineering and the conceptual breadth of management in a powerful framework for managing engineering and technology. Graduates will have gained improved skills to take a global perspective in formulating, analyzing and solving management problems with particular concern for strategic technologies and their use in all areas of business activity. They will also acquire a greater awareness of interpersonal relations, group dynamics and team motivation for innovation and effective communication.
