Introduction |
|
After graduation, holders of the DaF-Master-programme
qualification are expected to work as lecturers of German
Language and Culture in universities,
schools, relevant institutions etc. in
the whole region of the Middle East. The
programme covers both a theoretical and practical content in the
field of “Deutsch als Fremd-sprache” (“German as a Foreign
Language”)
(DaF). This includes language
training as well as on-the-job training together with country and culture studies, linguistics,
methods and methodology, scientific and research work, technical language communication,
literature, German Foreign Cultural Policy in conjunction with intercultural communication.
A high focus is laid on practical on-the-job-training through regular visits, observations as
well as the training offered by the German Department of the GJU in their Bachelor study
programmes. It is anticipated that these measures will introduce students to their future work as
quickly as possible.

Career Prospects |
|
Graduates of the Master programme are expected to work as
lecturers of German Language and Culture in universities,
schools, relevant institutions etc. in the Middle East. While
maintaining a Bachelor-degree in Germanics, Translation and
fields related to the German Language and Culture, students
entering the Master programme will gain a second qualifying degree
for their future career within the DaF-programme at the GJU. This
opportunity is, at present, unique in the whole region of the
Middle East.

Programme structure:

2 years programme, divided
into 4 semesters

Semester 1-2 in Amman, GJU
-
Semester 3 studies in
Germany at a university with a DaF-chair
-
Semester 4: final semester
in Amman, GJU, with focus on composing the Master thesis
Language of introduction:
German (throughout the whole study programme)
Prerequisites and admission requirements:
Students wishing to enter the Master study
course
“Deutsch als Fremdsprache” at the
GJU
must have a solid knowledge of German Language and Culture. Due
to this fact, the applicants must meet the following
requirements for acceptance:

Bachelor or equal academic degree in Germanics, in the
educational field or German-related studies, or:
-
Bachelor or equal academic degree in Translation and
Interpretation Sciences (compulsary language: German)
or:
-
Bachelor or equal academic degree in any other specific
field of interest for the GJU,provided a solid knowledge of
German Language and Culture can be demonstrated by an official
German Language Test,
and/or:
-
Official German Language Exam “TestDaF” (possibly level 4)
-
Bachelor degree from a reputable university recognized by the
Ministry of Higher Education and Research in Jordan with a GPA
good or above (for Jordanians only).
Application deadline:
The programme starts only in the fall term. As the
programme is
part of a DAAD-Lecture-ship, the deadline for application is related to the official
tender by the DAAD (GermanAcademic Exchange Service).
Scholarships:
A few scholarships may be available through DAAD for outstanding
students.
