Introduction

The translation/interpretation programme offers the students a well-balanced training in languages, skills in general and specialized translation/ interpretation, cultural and intercultural skills, computer skills and the use of modern translation tools and practical training. New domains for translators (e.g. localization of websites and software, desktop publishing) will be included in the teaching. During the first two years emphasis is placed on intensive language training, combined with an increasing part of translation/interpretation -related subjects. One semester in Germany is obligatory. The language training can be supplemented by attending a language summer course in Germany. For their last year, students decide for one of two majors: translation (written) or interpretation (oral).

The programme aims at graduating translators and interpreters, who

  • Have a strong command of Arabic, German and English

  • Have excellent intercultural communication skills

  • Can deal properly with texts and translations in various fields of expertise

  • And make the right decisions quickly

  • Master the modern technology as well as translation tools

  • Can work individually as well as in teams

  • Are able to work on both the national and the international level

Career Prospects

Graduates will be able to work on the national and the international level in translation and interpretation offices, national and international institutions and organizations, broadcasting institutions, as well as with companies in various fields (such as automobile industry, IT, engineering, pharmacy and tourism)

Program Details

Degree: Bachelor of Arts in Translation or Interpretation

Temporary Campus:   At the Royal Scientific Society in Al-Jubaiha/ Amman

Programme Structure:

  • Semester 1 – 5 in Amman

  • Semester 6 in Germany

  • Semester 7 – 8 in Amman

  • Summer programme (optional)

Credit Hours: 130-150 (including one Semester in Germany)

Contact Hours: 240-270 (including one Semester in Germany)(to be confirmed)

Language of Instruction: German and English (with the proportion of German growing quickly)

Admission Requirements:

  1. The Jordanian General Secondary Certificate (Tawjihi) (For Non-Jordanian Certificates: An equivalency issued by: The Jordanian Ministry of Education for Jordanian students or The Ministry of Education in the country that issued the certificate for non-Jordanian students)

  2. Minimum required average for admission: 70%

  3. Placement test planned

Language Skills Required:

  • Excellent native-language knowledge (Arabic)

  • very good knowledge in English language
