Objective: The main objective of this course is to teach the students fundamental approaches for experimentally investigating biochemical problems, teach them the theoretical foundations for the used methods, and help them to understand the applicability of the biochemical methods to realistic situations.

Syllabus: Topics covered in this course include methods for the isolation, purification, and characterization of amino acids, proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids. In more details, the experiments performed in this lab are: Titration of amino acids, Isolation of proteins from milk and eggs, Extraction of proteins from blood, Spectrophotometric analysis of protein-containing samples, Gel electrophoresis for proteins (SDS-PAGE), Qualitative tests for carbohydrates, Qualitative and Quantitative analysis of lipids, Isolation of DNA from whole blood followed by Analysis of DNA by Agarose gel electrophoresis and PCR method.
