The German Jordanian University (GJU) and University of Applied Sciences Aschaffenburg (H-AB) successfully conducted a 4 years cooperation on “Establishing Career Service Structures and Processes at GJU” in the frame of a DAAD DIES project.
In the final project conference, which took place on November 6, 2018 at GJU, the project partners introduced the project objectives and results to the audience and developed together the “next steps”.
The event was opened by Dr. Raed Khasawneh, Dean of Student Affairs at GJU who explained the importance of career counseling and guidance to enhance the employability of the students and to work in close cooperation with the private sector in order to teach students according to the market needs.
Such related activities where implemented during the DAAD DIES project: Workshops on employability, conferences on career guidance, staff training and quality assurance, capacity building, process management as well as field trips to companies, Alumni and networking events where part of the cooperation and presented by the project partners Mr. Ernst Schulten, Head of the Career Service and International Office at H-AB and Mrs. Britta Kaehler, the Director of GJU’s Office for Industrial Links.
The participants from different companies, career guidance offices from other universities and GJU employees from different departments then engaged in a workshop session. Together with the moderators, Mr. Andreas Dalluege, EFQM Senior Assessor and Birgit Kraus, Institutional Development and Quality Management at H-AB, they defined the most urgent needs to enhance the career services offered at GJU and in universities in general. How to better prepare the student for the job market and how to better implement soft skills and other related trainings as well as meaningful internships were among the main concerns.
The workshop session was based on a previously distributed questionnaire and the results and discussions let to the future action plan to make the established Career Services at GJU more visible and effective.
These career services are offered at GJU through the King Abdullah II Fund for Development –Career Guidance and Alumni Office (KAFD-CGO) at the Deanship of Students Affairs and the Office for Industrial Links (OIL) as an important cooperation to equip the students with workplace skills they need.
