GJU’s Dual Studies Success Story Continues

Despite all challenges companies are facing this year due to the corona virus we managed to continue the success story of Dual Studies in Jordan.

Dual Studies is an approach that connects theoretical knowledge with practical experiences. Students who are studying within this track will finish their University education with more than one year of practical experience in their study field.

Over a period of three respective four-study years, they will spend phases of practical education at the same company and will be paid for their work. The program tackles a shortcoming that has been addressed by the private sector since many years: The lack of practical relevance of academic education in Jordan – often students are not well prepared for working in the labor market.

By alternating practical and theoretical phases during the regular study time, students will be ready and prepared for their career directly after they finish their Bachelor Degree.

For the study programs in logistic Sciences- the School of Management and Logistic Sciences (SMLS), and Computer Science- the School of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (SEEIT), it is the second group of students who start their practical training this year already. For Industrial Engineering- the School of Applied Technical Sciences (SATS), it is the first group of students that enter this new track.

The requirements of the track demand a lot from the students, not only that they will spend most of their vacation time working in their partner companies, but also they will have a very limited time for make-up courses.

For the second year students, all students that already started their program last year could continue this year. Only one Partner Company reported problems with this year's practical phase due to operational corona regulations. Fortunately or the concerned students a regulation could be found, so that they could stay within the Dual Studies Track.

Eleven new companies joint the program for the first time: Estarta, MBC, Jordan Insurance Company, Bank al Etihad, Aramex, Pacific International Lines, DHL, Tikiyet Um Ali, Dar Al Hai, and RAMZ for Specialized Transport.

Our partners from last year are: Ikea, Intrasoft, Umniah, Zain, Aqaba Logistics Village, CMA CGM, Fine Holding, Amin Kawaar & Sons, Maersk, Masafat, Naouri Group, Petra Drugstore, Zain, Toyota and Umniah.
