We would like to draw your attention, that starting from the first semester of the academic year 2021/2022 onwards, the GJU's compulsory German courses can no longer be taken externally. We kindly ask all GJU students, who are currently attending German courses outside the GJU to enroll in the GLC course system. You will be given time until the week before the official registration period of the first semester of the academic year 2021/2022 to be exempted from German courses according to the current course exemption regulations at GLC, which will be valid until the first semester of the academic year 2021/2022.

 

 

New Students who will be accepted at GJU from the first semester of 2021/2022

The newly accepted students at GJU for the first semester of the academic year 2021/2022 onwards will be given the opportunity to be exempted from German levels from GERL101 (German 1) to GERL301 (German 5) once before their first academic semester at GJU. Students have to show a German language certificate or do a placement test (if they visited recently an external German course without having the certificate on time). The placement test will take place the week before the registration period at GJU according to the GJU academic calendar.

German certificates and their correlated German courses at GJU for new students

The below table shows for each German certificate the correlated German course at GJU that entitling the new students to be enrolled in. Based on that and starting from the first semester of the academic year 2021/2022 the exemption of the courses for the new students will be given only once before the beginning of the first academic semester of the student at GJU.

Application training, and Intercultural training on B1-level

A B1 certificate if passed in all four parts allows enrolling in German 6 "Regular".

 

Starting from the first semester of the academic year 2021/2022 onwards, German 6 will exclusively include technical language instruction as well as application training and intercultural training in preparation for the German Year. Therefore, and due to this specific character of the German 6, students cannot be exempted from German 6 anymore.

 

What is required to be exempted from GJU courses?

An exemption for a certain German level is only granted for the new students before their first academic semester at GJU by one of the following:

  • If a language certificate according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is presented at GLC. Only certificates from institutes accredited by the German government (which offer examinations according to the CEFR) are accepted: Goethe Institute, ÖSD (Österreichisches Sprachdiplom), Telc GmbH, TestDaF, Deutsches Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz (DSD). All official language certificates and course certificates should not be older than 12 months at the time of exemption.

 

  • If a placement test is passed. The onSET language placement test of the German TestDaF-Institute will be offered by the GLC the week before the registration period at GJU. The placement test is charged a fee.

 

What is the procedure to receive an exemption?

If you have a language certificate at the beginning of your study at GJU, please present the original to the contact person below in the week before the registration period at GJU according to the GJU academic calendar. No later exemption will be granted after then.

The placement test will be offered before the beginning of each academic semester and offered only for the new students. The test will take place the week before the registration period at GJU according to the GJU academic calendar. The result will be communicated to the students by e-mail and will be automatically forwarded to the GJU's Registration Department.
