On October 30, 2018, the German Jordanian University (GJU) opened a new chapter in their cooperation with the Industry. Organized by the Office for Industrial Links, Prof. Dr Manar Fayyad, the President of the University officially kicked-off GJUs first Dual Studies Program.

The new opened Dual Studies Track in GJUs Bachelor program for Logistics Sciences will enrich the predominantly theoretical academic education on campus with extended practical application and training phases in participating companies. The Dual Study tracks shall provide the Jordanian labor market with well-educated graduates prepared to add real value to the companies from their first day of employment.

Prof. Fayyad, who just came back from Germany, where she visited German Universities that already offer Dual Studies Programs for many years, pointed out, that she was impressed by the level of cooperation between the universities sector and the industry and strives to reach the same for Jordan.

Within the presence of Vice Presidents Prof. Dorit Schumann and Prof. Atef Kharabsheh, the Dean of the School of Management and Logistics Sciences, Dr. Malek Alsharairi, and the Logistics professors, the President appreciated the engagement and cooperation of the eight present companies who signed a cooperation agreement to collaborate in the Dual Studies program. ‘Without your willingness to support us in this innovative idea, we would not be able to start’, she addressed the company representatives.

Mohammed Badran, the Head of giz’ “Labor-Market Oriented Vocational Education, Higher Education and Training-Program”, who is the main partner in the establishment of the Dual Studies program, pointed out that giz is always looking for partners that are willing to develop new ideas, in the case of GJU, the new idea was already developed and giz was happy to support’.

All present company representatives agreed that coming together as University and Industry to train young people, is not only an investment in the future of these people, but also in the future of the companies. In a continuously faster changing world, well-educated labor that is not only able to work according to instructions but can come up with own ideas and react to new challenges with creativity is a valuable resource.

Prof. Fayyad awarded all partners with a certificate of appreciation by the GJU Presidency.

Those companies are Fine Hygienic Holding, Maani PREFAB Construction, Masafat Specialized Transport, Naouri Group, IKEA, Petra Drug Store, Aqaba Logistics Village and Amin Kawar & Sons Company.
