Go-ahead for the new Programme “Social Work for Migration and Refugees”.

On October 20th, 2015, Professor Abu Obeid, President of the GJU, Prof Mangstl, Vicepresident, and Dr. Pleines, Dean of the School of Applied Humanities and Languages, were in Würzburg/Germany where an agreement was signed between the GJU and Würzburg University of Applied Sciences. This agreement summarizes and updates previous agreements that have been operative between several Schools of both universities for many years already. In addition to these up-dates the agreement launches an innovative academic platform: for its newly created master programme "International Social Work with Refugees and Migrants" Würzburg University will send its students to attend one semester at the GJU in Amman.

For Würzburg University of Applied Sciences the talks were conducted by its President Professor Grebner, its Vicepresident Professor Rosskopf and Professor Unz, Dean of the School for Applied Social Sciences.

Besides Würzburg University, several further German universities are preparing exchange programmes for students as well as lecturers and researchers with the new Department of Social Work at the GJU.

As it is undeniable that there is a lasting need for professionalizing social work practices on a national, regional and international scale, the GJU Department of Social Work is starting training programmes leading a Professional Diploma “Migration and Refugees” targeting not only international students, but also Jordanian graduates from social sciences or social work studies, employees of governmental institutions and staff working for other public or non-governmental institutions.
