The Professional training Certificate in Social Work: Refugees & Migrants Jordan, with its location in the heart of the Middle East has had a long history of hosting multiple influxes of refugees. Approximately 30% of its population of 9 million, are registered refugees. It has therefore been identified as one of the major transitional countries for migration. In general, the world is facing ever-increasing challenges in different domains related to forced migration and refugees such as influences on the economy, livelihoods, health, and various psychosocial social dimensions. The German Jordanian University (GJU) has identified a high demand for creating a specialized postgraduate training program that focuses on addressing the challenges of refugees and forced migration. The GJU’s Department of Social Work and its Consultation and Training Center (CTC) have partnered on this 1 program which brings together national, regional and international aspects and perspectives to encompass the understanding of the current pressing problems of refugees, in a context of sociopolitical change. The training certificate aims at providing practical knowledge in a limited and manageable period of time. The certificate is tailored to target not only social work practitioners, but also professionals from other allied disciplines as well as new graduates. The courses provide a comprehensive understanding of the needs of displaced persons, and it is their perspectives that shape the program to better equip professionals who work with them. In order to ensure direct relevance between the field and the training certificate, a workshop at the GJU was conducted with major stakeholders in the field of refugees and forced migration in Jordan. This included 10 national and international governmental and non-governmental organizations. The outcome of this workshop provided the guidelines for the main areas and components of this Training Certificate in Social Work: Migration and Refugees.
