First Study Group Mobility (SGM) at GJU – a review

From 5th-11th September, we welcomed the Study Group from the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (DHBW) Bad Mergentheim Campus Mosbach in Jordan.

Ten undergraduate industrial engineering students each from the GJU and the DHBW have been working on a project with the title „Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) in Jordan and Europe: Present status, trends and challenges from a technical and economic perspective”. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Volker Siegismund (DHBW) and Dr. Mohammad AbuShams (SATS) led the collaboration.  At the end of the project, the German group traveled to Jordan.

On their first day, the group visited Amman with all its touristic sites and typical food (Falafel, Knafeh, Hummus). On the second day, the international office as well as vice president Prof. Dr. Ralf Rosskopf welcomed the group. After the welcome session, a campus tour as well as an extensive tour of the SATS department, the SATS introduced the GJU and the group project. The president of GJU, Prof. Dr. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli, came to the gathering to welcome the students in German, too. Afterwards, the students presented each with ther German-Jordanian group their project in the form of poster presentations. The rest of the day was spent in Madaba and ended with a dinner at Haret Jdoudna.

Next to the presentation on campus, the group visited Petra Engineering Industries Co. in Amman, the Dead Sea as well as the archeological site Petra and Wadi Rum. The program was permeated by academic as well as intercultural exchange and encounters. We therefore hope that DHBW and GJU students will serve as ambassadors for Jordan and Germany.

We would like to thank the SATS and DHBW and everyone who contributed to the SGM. We are looking forward to further cooperation with the DHBW as well as the other SGM that we are welcoming  in the next months.
