How application can be taught? How can students, professors, and companies connect and develop common projects and business solutions while using new technologies?

GJU’s Office for Industrial Links (OIL) organized a special training workshop for company representatives and professors from GJU to get a deeper insight into the adapt2job method and how it can be applied in universities and businesses.

Adapt2job is a training method developed by the German Professor Dr. Edda Pulst, which aims at bridging the gap between education and the needs of the labor market by using real-life examples for training sessions.

The trainings that took place from 9th.-13th of February 2020 tackled questions like:

-  How to teach application “Learning as Event”

-  How new technologies and their application can be integrated into projects

-  How academia and industry develop perspectives for business and jobs while shaping the digital transformation in Jordan.

The workshops were presented by the adapt2job Training Team from Germany consisting of Professor Dr. Edda Pulst, and Dr. Markus Reifferscheid, the Top Manager of SMS Group, a leading partner for the metal industry and digital solutions, as well as leading Jordanian companies and previous a2j participants from the network.

They evaluated previous adapt2job sessions which are considered as being very special since the main requirements for employers are addressed: the ability to be creative and an analytical thinker.

The trainers introduced seven main pillars in order to meet the challenges of digital transformation and selected eight current digital technologies, their applications, and the significance of business with digitalization:

IoT

Cloud

Big Data

Intelligent Things and Robots

Blockchain

3D Printing

AR/VR

Digital Twin

The mixed groups produced within a World Café Session in an interdisciplinary approach four teaching concepts for application by using chosen technologies. The company experts from the adapt2job and GJU Dual Studies network provided valuable input from an industry perspective. The professors, a2j-Alumni and business representatives developed adapt2Job-teaching outlines and presented their concepts. The developed course concepts will be the starting point for an increase in application teaching, which will be implemented in September this year at the annual 2win-Training for students.

In the opening, GJU’s Vice President Prof. Ralf Roβkopf and the Office for Industrial Links director Britta Kähler focused on the importance of applied teaching, industry connections and practical experience as the main pillars of GJU in addition to GJU’s German dimension – all this is integrated into the adapt2job trainings.

Adapt2job means working as a team, it means “two”. A professor and his or her industry partner who put all their knowledge and experience together in order to even better prepare students for the challenging job market. “We have to leave our comfort zones and adapt new approaches, technologies and special skills trainings to be applied in the education of our students”.

Through Train the Trainer and Open Sessions, GJU will expand its already growing adapt2job network and may serve as a hub for innovative and applied teaching approaches in the future.

The - adapt2job-Training took place in the frame of GJU’s flying faculty program supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
