On Wednesday 27th of December 2017, the School of Basic Sciences and Humanities (SBSH) at the German Jordanian University (GJU), organized an awareness lecture on "Breast Cancer- Facts and Statistics " conducted by Dr. Saud Hamza, Consultant of Breast Cancer and Plastic Surgery at the University of Western Australia-Perth, attended by members of the academic and administrative staff, students and women from the local community.

Dr. Saud began the lecture by presenting facts and statistics about the disease and its prevalence in Jordan, Europe, Australia and America, indicating the most important factors contributing to the disease, such as lack of physical activity, dietary habits, late marriage and abstention of breastfeeding.

He pointed to the risk factors that cause the breast cancer and cannot be prevented such as gender, aging, genetic factors, family history, menstrual cycle and race, clearing other factors related to the lifestyle such as obesity, high-fat diets, smoking, use of hormone replacement.

He also referred to the procedures used in treating breast cancer, such as Surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Hormonal and Targeted Therapy, explaining the primary goal of treatment is removing cancer and eliminating any cancerous cells cannot be seen.
