The German Jordanian University successfully released its computerized online exams system on the first 2016/2017 semester. The system can be customized to make and conduct multiple-choice online tests in different languages such as: Arabic, English and German. Besides that, it saves GJU thousands of Jordanian dinars on the cost of similar test preparation tools. Additionally, it eliminates the time-consuming and error-prone manual grading process that overloads the instructors of the basic sciences and humanities departments ahead of every academic semester.
The system is initially launched to prepare and conduct the Arabic competency test that is meant to measure the Arabic language skills and competencies of the accepted students. The first Arabic competency test was held on September 19, 25, 26 and 27, 2016. About 700 new students were distributed on multiple daily sessions that were conducted in seven laboratories, which are equipped with powerful desktops and high-speed Internet.
The system is designed and developed by the Director of the Information Systems and Technology Center (ISTC) Dr. Feras Al-Hawari and Eng. Mai Al-Shawabkeh. It is comprised of a student and administrator view. The student view allows the students to view the exam instructions and answer 50 multiple choice questions using an easy to use wizard. While the administrator view enables the instructors to view the exam sections, forms and sessions. In addition, it allows viewing the students in each session, browsing the exam form of each student and computing the grades for all the students at a click of a button.
Dr. Haytham Althawbih and Dr. Omar Abu Nawwas from the Arabic department prepared the exam questions and sections. Whereas proctors from the school of basic sciences and humanities as well as the school of electrical engineering and information technology who were supported by the engineers of the ISTC monitored and administered the various test sessions.
