Amman- 21 January 2019

From 8th – 10th November 2018 the annual Network Meeting 2018 „Social Work for Refugees and Migrants“ took place at University of Kassel. Fifteen participants from German partner universities, a guest from the city of Kassel and the filmmaker Mr. Habib Aria Azizi joined the network meeting.

The hosting professor Dr. Sigrid James, the network head Dr. Jochen Pleines and exchange coordinator Dr. Rawan Ibrahim lead fruitful discussions with the network members and pointed out that the GJU Department of Social Work does not have an undergraduate programme and, for the time being, therefore does not have outgoing students in this field.

The two current graduate programmes Master and Professional Diploma do not include a compulsory stay in Germany. Dr.  Ibrahim gave detailed insights into both programs and mentioned that the department of Social Work is dealing with a disproportionally high number of incoming students from Germany and other countries.

Dr. Monica Heitz, Director of the GJU Project Office at UAS Magdeburg-Stendal, outlined the principles of the project TNB/TNE: Transnational Building/Transnational Education, which is underlying the German government’s program aiming at promoting bi-national universities. The network partners subsequently presented their contribution to the collaboration with GJU.

University Vechta discussed their joint publication with GJU, University Würzburg a collaborative DAAD project, University Kassel Erasmus+ mobility for master students and Prof. James and Dr. Ibrahim just handed in a joint research proposal with UNICEF Jordan in collaboration with Oxford University.

Future topics of the Network „Social Work for Refugees and Migrants“ will be German accreditation and the expansion of specializations and programs according to local and regional needs.
