The 6th GJU Career Fair took place on 13th April 2016, on GJU campus. Continuing its trend of continued growth, GJU students and graduates engaged with 98 exhibitors on four floors and in two different buildings. GJU Vice-Presidents Prof. Manar Fayyad and Prof. Dr. Anton Mangstl, along with other academic staff, visited the fair and underlined the importance of close university-industry connections.
Connect, inspire, hire
As last year, the GJU Career Fair included an Entrepreneurship Section. We are especially proud that a number of startups from GJU students and graduates were there to present their work and inspire a new generation of GJU students to build their own business. To make this even easier, the section included a number of Entrepreneurship Support Organization, who could provide mentoring, funding and coaching, among others. GJU PIE (Program Innovation & Entrepreneurship) also provided guidance and advertised their activities, which has included a Startup Weekend and a Health Hackathon.
After successfully introducing this Entrepreneurship Section last year, GJU this year launched a dedicated section for training and scholarship providers, where the exhibitors were in close contacts with students from all majors and age groups. The section offered a variety of options from private provider of training courses to public scholarship providers, such as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
By far the largest section was the company section. This hive of activity included a huge variety of companies across different sectors and from family-run business to large multinational companies. After many returning companies, we also were able to welcome a range of new companies. Among the returning companies were our sponsors Akhtaboot and bayt.com. GJU working to offer the best career paths
Armed with their CVs, GJU students & graduates were able to interact directly with company representative. Some companies also brought along GJU graduates working with them now, which was an excellent opportunity for former and current GJU students to connect and ask questions about working with the company. The students and graduates received immediate feedback on many topics, from information on internships and jobs to possible career paths.
The companies also benefited greatly from GJU Career Fair. They could easily and directly recruit on-campus. Many companies had interesting interviews with potential candidates during the fair. Where else but at GJU Career Fair would you be able to meet some of the best students and graduates in their fields. The companies especially valued the international exposure of our GJU graduates. The newly launched GJU Career Portal (www.jobs.gju.edu.jo ) also enables companies to directly advertise their job and internship offers to GJU students & graduates.
Who is behind GJU Career Fair?
The 6th GJU Job Fair 2016 was chiefly organized by the Office for Industrial Links (OIL) and the Career Guidance Office of the King Abdullah II Fund (KAFD) at GJU. OIL connects the university with the industry on many different levels. Our activities include providing career service and guidance for our students and graduates, recruitment services for our national and international industry partners as well as connecting the GJU faculty with possible project partners. This fair is one such activity which has grown into an annual event. KAFD offers career guidance and counselling to GJU students and organizes events on soft skill development.
OIL and KAFD would not have been able to organize the GJU Career Fair without the gracious support of our colleagues from the Service Department, the Public Relations and Marketing Department, the presidency’s offices, our student assistants and the colleagues of the different study departments. They all contributed to this highly successful event.
