On October 1st 2017, the fourth batch of the “Arabic Language and Culture” (ALC) started their study program at the Consultation and Training Centre. The students came from 11 different German Universities and are staying for a whole semester at the GJU.

 The program was initiated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and established by the German Jordanian University (GJU) in 2014. The central objective of the ALC program is to organize intensive programs during the autumn terms focusing on Arabic language and the Arab culture.

 It implements the didactic concepts developed at the Bochum University “Institute for Intensive Language Teaching” (LSI) which has been developed further and adapted to the Jordanian framework.

The entrance levels of Arabic required as a prerequisite is “Intermediate”, corresponding to B1 or B2 in accordance with the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages”. Applicants for scholarships (DAAD or universities) have to pass an assessment test.

This first part of the program which is the Jordanian Dialect (Amiya) will be taught this year by part-time lecturers from Shatha Al Machrek Centerm where students will receive intensive teaching for two weeks.

The second part will be the tuition in Standard Arabic (Fusha) which will be taught by the GJU lecturers all through the first semester 2017/2018.
