The Social Work Department- the School of Applied Humanities and Languages (SAHL) at the German Jordanian Universities (GJU) held two master thesis defenses on Thursday, August 6, 2020.

Heba Sarhan defended her master’s thesis entitled “The representation of utopia in contemporary Lebanese graffiti and mural art” supervised by Prof. Dr. Mitchell Gordon.

The examination committee consisted of Prof. Christine Hildebrandt, Dr. Badir Madi, and Dr. Ayat Nashwan, external examiner from Yarmouk University.

Basel Shamout his master’s thesis entitled “The Influence of Displacement on Syrian Children with Cancer in Jordan” supervised by Prof. Christine Hildebrandt, head of the Social Work Department and co-supervised by Prof. Ralf Rosskopf, vice President for international affairs.

The examination committee consisted of Prof. Salah Alsalman, dean of SAHL, Dr. Badir Madi, and Dr. Ayat Nashwan, external examiner from Yarmouk University.

During her study, Heba Sarhan participated in two international projects at the Department of Social Work. The first one was in 2019 at the "Higher Education Dialog (HED) – "Life of Refugees in Host Communities: Reducing Inequalities and Promoting Peaceful and Inclusive Societies", also she participated in two mobilities to Lebanon and Germany.

Her second contribution at the HED virtual summer school in 2020. Basil Shammout as well participated in 2018 in the "Humanitarian Access: Pathways for Refugees from Transit to Safe Havens".

The Department of Social Work is participating in several international projects where students can participate and write academic research papers in the fields of their interest in line with the project's themes.

The Department focuses on offering unique experiences for the students to enhance their knowledge and horizons as well as to equip the students with all the necessary education in order to success field of knowledge. ​
