On Thursday 4th of May 2017, The German Jordanian University (GJU) celebrated the opening of the 10th National Technology Parade under the title of “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum “in cooperation with Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship.

President of GJU, Prof. Natheer abu Obied, presented a speech on behalf of princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, saying that the theme of this year’s parade “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” comes with lots of challenges where the marketplace now is demanding a skilled graduate who is capable of thinking in an innovative way.

He explained GJU’s approach in linking the theoretical education with practice, by approaching the industrial sector, and engaging both students and the industry with each other.

 He also valued the position of the industrial professor, and Program of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (PIE) that was established in GJU five years ago, to start shifting the way of student’s thinking and spreading the innovation and entrepreneurship culture.

At the end of his speech, Abu Obied invited all universities to work together to change the education system, explore the potential energies and ideas of the students, to eventually reach a point where the ideas can be transformed into an actual and sustainable projects.

Dr. Mohammed Dawood said, that the parade is a response to the global drive towards capitalizing on the innovative potential of students to provide technological solutions to challenges facing businesses, governments, civil society, and local communities in different areas of the world.

At the end of the event vice president Dr. Manar Fayyad thanked all participants from public and private universities, and congratulated the students on their projects and winnings, stressing the importance of collaborating with institutions to sponsor youth’s ambitions.

A 182 project signed up to participate in the parade, 66 of them were successful, while 3 projects won from each category, these categories in the field of: Engineering Design and Simulation, Entertainment and Games, Energy and Environmental Technology, Medical and Bio Technology, Defense, Security and Public Safety, Industrial and Productivity Technology, Information Technology and Smart Systems Technology.
