On Thursday, 18 July 2019, Under the Patronage of H.E. the Minister of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Walid Alma’ani  the German Jordanian University (GJU) participated in the Information Day on cooperative technical higher education in Jordan, which was organized by GIZ within the frame of the project “Labor Market Oriented Vocational Education, Higher Education, and Training MOVE-HET.”

In the opening session, MOVEHET Program Director Ms. Eman Qaraeen, the German Embassy Representative Dr. Bernd Kuzmits and H.E. Dr. Walid Alma’ani gave speeches where they emphasized the importance of technical and vocational education, matching training and skills with the labor market’s needs and participation of the private sector.

The Information Day included comprehensive information about the application of the Dual Studies Program at the German Jordanian University and Al- Quds University as the first executors to the program in the region.

Dr. Stefan Braun- Dual Studies Advisor at GJU conducted a brief about the Dual Studies in Germany, models, and types. From his side, Dr. Abdel- Rahim Alsoussi from the School of Management and Logistic Sciences (SMLS) at GJU explained the format of the program and the chosen type to be implemented at the School. 

With the participation of Hakam Abul Failat, General Manager of Aqaba Logistics Village and a partner in the program, two GJU students Yara and Marwan, the Dual Studies Advisor at GJU, Simon Strasburger conducted a Q&A session on the benefits of cooperative technical higher education in Jordan from the perspective of the company, student and university.

President of GJU Prof. Manar Fayyad joined the panel discussion which included representatives from AlQuds University, Balqa Applied University, the National Sector Skills Council, Jordan Logistics Association, GJU student, and Dr. Alsoussi.

Fayyad assured that the Dual Studies Program is a practical step that would benefit both students and the labor market. She cleared that the journey is still long and carry many challenges and opportunities as well, declaring that the plan is to expand the program to other schools at GJU.

The panel discussion addressed the essential requirements that companies should consider to participate in the program, benefits and advantages of the program, challenges and opportunities.

The MOVE-HET Project has an overarching goal of aligning TVET and Higher Education programs with labor market needs to improve employability. It aims toward strengthening employment orientation of TVET and Higher Education and supports the implementation of Dual Study programs at Jordanian universities. The MOVE-HET project supports and encourages the involvement of the private sector in TVET and Higher Education.
