On Sunday 11th of June 2017, German Jordanian University (GJU) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply.
The MoU was signed by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Engineer Yarub Qudah on behalf of the ministry, and by Acting President of GJU, Dr. Manar Fayyad on behalf of GJU, with the presence of General Secretary Mr. Yousef Alshamali, and a number of officials from both sides.
The MoU aims to establish a strong cooperation between both sides, encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, collaborate in the academic and applied fields, and perform mutual conferences, workshops and training courses in topics of common interest such as the industrial sector issues, small to medium-sized enterprise, e-commerce and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Fayyad said that it’s a great pleasure to strengthen the relationship with the ministry since all industries are linked to it, clarifying that GJU’s approach is to focus on the application side along with the academic with a focus on strengthening the relations with the private and industrial sectors, through the Program Innovation and Entrepreneurship (PIE) and the committee of industrial links.
She introduced the “innovation space” that GJU launched to help the students to implement their own ideas and transform them into an actual projects and businesses in real life, highlighting the university’s vision’s which transformed from “Education for Employment” to “Education for Employment and Entrepreneurship”.
Qudah assured the ministry’s interest in supporting innovation and entrepreneurship which is considered a vital factor to develop and improve the economic sector focusing on creating business incubators.
He said that the signing reflects the ministry’s keenness in strengthen partnership and networking among different sectors such as educational institution and Civil society organizations, because it will reflect positively on pioneering ideas and creativity.
According to the MoU, GJU will provide innovation, leadership and entrepreneurship services through the “innovation space” located at GJU, while the ministry will provide awareness support for the “innovation space” in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship, besides introduce patents and industrial property, and issues related to innovation.
GJU will transfer the experiences of its German partners in developing and applying industry policies in Jordan that aims to improve local industry.
MoU included points about collaboration in building clear visions in terms of the market needs and ways to direct the academic programs toward it, in additions collaboration in the field of studies and research.
