The project: "Exploring the Use of Mobile Augmented Reality as an Urban Design Educational Tool" based on Narmeen Marji's Spatial Planning Master's thesis has been shortlisted as one of the top 9 AR/VR applications in education globally by the world's most prestigious educational award (QS: Reimagine Education) hosted by QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), The world's largest international higher education network best known for their world rankings and analysis of higher education institutions. The project was supervised by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ali Yaghan and Dr. Janset Shawash.

Due to this project, GJU was competing against some of the world's top universities and receiving global recognition as one of the world's most innovative Urban Design Programs.

The project went through one of the toughest assessment rounds, conducted by over 200 Judges around the world, and was also subject to two rounds of internal moderation from the Reimagine Education Steering Committee, evaluating over 1500 entries and only 126 organizations were selected, among which was the German Jordanian University with our project in the AR/VR  (Augmented/Virtual Reality) category.

Project Description:

"This pilot project aims to develop Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) applications for undergraduate level education in the discipline of urban design and planning. MAR presents an innovative method that dramatically enhances teaching delivery and the educational process. It is readily adaptable to e-learning modules and provides students with a set of skills essential for emerging professional markets. The project collaborates with an Urban Design Course at the School of Architecture at the German Jordanian University, to develop interactive MAR experiences using real-time development engines, as a tool for analysis, design of context-sensitive interventions, and visualization and communication of the outcomes."
