Within King Abdullah II Fund for Development Project “Undergraduates Research & Innovation Support,” the Fund provided support for a remote sensing system development project for a group of students from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Communications- School of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (SEEIT), at the German Jordanian University (GJU).

The project idea is to provide a monitoring and remote sensing system that assesses an area for the decision-makers. It was implemented by students: Ashraf Shatat, Aws Issa, Hazem Qadri, and Zaid Sakkijha.

The project was published in the IEEExplore Global Database and participated in the International Scientific Conference, the second IEEE MENACOMM 2019 Communication Conference for the Middle East and North Africa.

Dr. Alaa Khalifa, the project supervisor, explained that the device could be used in various fields, including the security field, since it monitors remotely and inspects the presence of toxic gases or any danger to human existence.

Khalifa added that the device could be used in the agricultural field, such as monitoring soil, weather, and control. This use enables smart irrigation and helps to improve agricultural products and save water.

Khalifa praised the technical and financial support provided by the King Abdullah II Fund for Development for the project, which enabled them to purchase the necessary parts and equipment for conducting experiments and tests to reach the best design.

It is noteworthy that since 2004, the King Abdullah II Fund for Development has been implementing a project to support research and innovation for university undergraduates to provide young people with tools for creativity and innovation. It supports undergraduates of Jordanian public and private universities to implement their projects/research in a manner that contributes to creating a productive and effective society in the scientific and educational aspects.
