On Monday 12th of March 2018, The School of Applied Technical Sciences (SATS) and the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research (DGSSR) at the German Jordanian University (GJU), organized an invited talk on “Microfluidic Assays for Studying Inflammation and Infections”, presented by distinguished Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Daniel Irimia.

Dr. Irimia presented his research activities on the amazing neutrophil –microfluidic devices to study inflammation, infections, and sepsis where at the end of the talk a session of questions and answers with faculty members and students were conducted.

After the lecture, Dr. Irimia visited the Nanolab @ GJU, where he was introduced to the research facilities available and discussed possible collaborations on microfluidic devices for point of care.

It is worthy to mention that Dr. Irimia is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Associate Bioengineer at Massachusetts General Hospital and Deputy Director of the BioMEMS Resource Center. He is an internationally recognized expert in bioengineered microsystems for cellular chemotaxis and other functional assays. His scholarship is reflected in more than 100 publications, of which more than 60 in the past 5 years. He is senior author on publications in leading journals, including Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Materials, Nature Communications, and PNAS.
