Student Fadia Alshoura from the School of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (SEEIT) - Computer Engineering Department at the German Jordanian University (GJU) defended her Master thesis entitled “ Optimization of Migration Cost for Network Function Virtualization Replacement”.

The thesis was supervised by Dr. Ammar Gharaibeh, and Co-supervisor Prof. Sahel Alone. The defense committee consisted of Dr. Ammar Gharaibeh, Prof. Sahel Alouneh, Dr. Feras Alhawari, Dr. Mustafa Shawaqfeh, and Dr. Basheer Al-Duwairi.

The thesis proposed a near-optimal migration cost (NOMC) algorithm based on Sequential Fixing that efficiently computes an approximate solution to migrate virtual network functions among network nodes. A greedy minimum migration cost (GMMC) algorithm with lower complexity is also proposed.

The results show that the proposed NOMC and GMMC algorithms can reduce the total migration cost by up to 76% and 61% and a number of migrations by up to 70% and 52% when compared to the state-of-the-art schemes.

GJU Congratulates Fadia on her accomplishment and wishes her the best of luck!
