From 9th to 12th November 2015, GJU hosted a workshop on University Process Management for staff at GJU.

The workshop aimed at enhancing quality and process management at GJU. Therefore, the workshop was a platform to discuss cooperation and flow of information between different departments at GJU and the daily processes within departments. The workshop also included software training in process management software, which will be available to GJU departments. Ms. Birgit Kraus, responsible for quality management at Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences, and Mr. Michael Schneppensiefer, lecturer at the same university and software expert, moderated the four-day workshop.

The workshop on University Process Management was the second workshop organized by the Office for Industrial Links (OIL) at GJU in cooperation with the Career Service of Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences, represented by Mr. Ernst Schulten, within the DAAD DIES cooperation to “Establish Career Service Structures and Processes at GJU”. The King Abdullah II Fund for Development-Career Guidance Office (KAFD-CGO) at GJU supported the workshop.

The first day of the workshop was held in the presence of Prof. Natheer Abu Obeid, GJU President and Prof. Manar Fayyad, Vice President. On behalf of the President, Prof. Anton Mangstl, Vice President for International Affairs, welcomed the participants and emphasized the necessity of such a workshop to develop a detailed understanding of the tasks and processes at GJU and to measure their quality to further enhance the quality of GJU. Ms. Birgit Kraus gave a presentation on how to measure and manage the quality of higher education institutions.

During the next three days, the participants worked in three groups on how to define job descriptions, how to define strategies as a guideline for processes and on the processes of the Office for Industrial Links itself. The participants included representatives from different administrative departments, such as the Human Recourses Department, Quality Assurance and Accreditation Office, and Finance Department, as well as academic staff from different schools. On the last day, the participants received training in the new process management software and presented their outcomes to all participants.

In the framework of the workshop, the Office for Industrial Links also organized two field trips to Jordanian companies, Mansour Industrial Complex for Glass & Mirrors and Aramex. The field trips were an opportunity for the Office and their German guests to gain first-hand knowledge on the challenges and possibilities of process and quality management in a business environment. It was also an excellent opportunity to exchange further avenues of cooperation, a key objective of the Office.
