The Deanship of Graduate Studies and the Deanship of Scientific Research at the German Jordanian University were merged as of 30th of October 2012 to become the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research. Originally both Deanships have been established with the foundation of the university in 2005. We adopt both bylaws for the previous Deanships as our bylaws for the newly merged Deanship. As far as graduate studies, for a young university, GJU has proven to be one of the leading universities in Jordan. Our graduate students, after their graduation, are very much in demand in the marketplace at large. The uniqueness of GJU’s graduate programs is that it comes as a response to the market demand and the high tech needs of industry, management, and government.
Many of our Master programs are joint or double degree programs with one or more German universities. A Jordanian student may spend one semester in a German University and similarly a German student may spend similar semester at GJU. Such an interaction is vital to the transfer of high tech expertise in all fields. All our graduate programs benefit from the flying faculty program, which is supported by DAAD, where a German Faculty member may spend few weeks at GJU teaching a regular course in an intensified manner.
This site is intended to provide information on the philosophy of the deanship of graduate studies and scientific research, the various study programs which are being offered at GJU, the study plans and rules and regulations which students need to be aware of towards a successful career program at this university. Also 35 graduate studies forms are available online that reflect many executive articles of the graduate studies regulations, such as admission, incomplete, dropping a course, postponing studies, assigning a master thesis supervisor, approving title and plan of a thesis, thesis defense committee formation, awarding grants, etc.
Our goal at the deanship of graduate studies and scientific research is to ensure that our students receive a well-rounded education, while ensuring that all administrative codes of academic discipline are fulfilled to the maximum possible extent with transparency and equal opportunity acting at the core of the process.
Scientific research at GJU is considered to be one of the vital roles of faculty members. High caliber research has profound impacts on the researcher, the students, the institution and the country. It stimulates thought, expands horizons, enhances reputations, finds new topics for master theses students and solves important issues. The deanship was established at GJU in order to help researchers achieve these goals. This is done through providing funding of research grants, facilitating publication of research results and attendance of conferences.
GJU encourages it’s faculty to attend high quality international and regional conferences, as has a separate budget to fund attendance. The university funds travel, conference fees and per diems for researchers who wish to attend a conference. The necessary form to apply for such funding is available on this website and should be filled and signed by your dean before it is sent to this deanship.
Funding for research is intended to facilitate establishing research lines that will ultimately be self-sustaining. The university does not view its role as being a funding agency, and so the limited funds available are to be used as seed grants, stop gap grants, supplementary grants and student research grants. The regulations for these research grants and the necessary forms needed to apply for them are available on this web site. In addition to providing funding, the deanship oversees the financial and administrative issues related to project implementation.
As dean of the deanship of graduate studies and scientific research, I shall pursue every possible venue that would pour into fulfilling the best interest of GJU students, faculty, the institution, and the development needs of Jordan.
