Goals:
The general aims and philosophy of the newly founded School of Languages at GJU are to provide students – MA (DaF) and BA students (DaF / Translation Studies) – with a profound general knowledge in modern languages (German, English, Arabic) and cultures as well as solid abilities in intercultural communication and mediation between different cultural regions of the world.
Thereby, the very special inherent challenge in times of globalization is to prepare students to mediate between the Arab world and the so-called Western world.
The School of Languages aims to offer high-quality language teaching for all GJU-students and professional courses, which cover both a theoretical and a practical content in the field of “Deutsch als Fremdsprache” (DaF / German as a Foreign Language) (BA and MA) and Translation Studies.
The offered programs include language training as well as on-the-job-training together with country and culture studies, linguistics, methods and methodology, scientific research work, technical language communication, literature, translation tools and media management in conjunction with intercultural communication. Focus is laid on practical on-the-job-training; therefore, it is expected that these measures will introduce students to their future work as quickly as possible.
At the end of the study courses, program graduates will be well grounded in the respective languages and cultures.
As for research, program graduates will also have developed a strong qualification to work independently in the academic-scientific research sector, as they will have internalized the different scientific traditionsand their practical application.
