A gift from you to your brother at GJU
Amman, 23 Feb 2012
A group of students at the German Jordanian University organized an initiative entitled ‘A gift from you to your Brother’ to express their appreciation for the hard work that the cleaning workers and the general services staff at the GJU have been doing in keeping the university buildings clean. The students said that they wanted to honor those workers and thank them for the services they have been giving to GJU students, faculty and staff.
The students took on the roles of the cleaning workers by wearing their uniforms and cleaning different facilities at the university for two hours. The students cleaned several classrooms and offices at the university while expressing their pleasure for doing these tasks. The students cleaned the university garden and several classrooms- moved the desks and chairs, wiped floors, cleaned desks, and threw away the trash.
Ms. Hala Jurf, one of the organizers of this initiative, said that “by seeing the cleaning staff teach the students how to clean, we realized the importance of their tasks and services. We also felt that the cleaning staff was so proud that they are teaching us things we did not know before, and that gave us a great feeling in return’.
The students also invited the cleaning staff to the university’s cafeteria for lunch and paid for their meals. The cleaning staff was extremely pleased with this initiative and thanked the students for their support and care.
