Amman- 27 January 2016
The annual graduation projects competition that organized by the Jordanian Engineers Association and Amman Chamber of Industry announced the winners who took the first and third places from German Jordanian University (GJU) .
The graduation project that was awarded the first place conducted by Omar Al-Tamimi and supervised by Dr. Anas Atieh. The project titled “A Value Stream Mapping and Simulation Hybrid Application”, used two modern industrial engineering tools a glass fabrication plant, Mansour Glass Industries, in an effort to highlight sources of waste and test solutions that could improve the company’s production. As a result, the project provided measurable sources of waste and suggested improvements that would result in a real-life gain for the company. The work was done in strict constraints of time and resources, nevertheless, the results were accurate, applicable, and easily communicable to all stakeholders in the company.
Dr. Anas Atieh, the supervisor of the project, holds a PhD in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from University of Calgary and a MSc in Industrial Engineering from the University of Jordan. He started working as a professor in the German Jordanian University since September 2014. Omar Al-Tamimi graduated July of last year from Industrial Engineering with a very good rating. He continued working in Mansour Glass Industries after graduation for a short spell on basis of this graduation project. Dr. Hazem Kaylani and Dr. Ahmad Muhtady had also helped with project and provided assistance in their specific fields of simulation and optimization respectively.
The project was also published in September of last year in the top international scientific journal, the International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology.

Another graduation project that also won the third place among chemical engineering divisions in Jordan entitled “Investigating experimental correlation between Fischer Assay yield of oil shale and Thermo -gravimetric Analysis “( TGA).
The project conducted by Majd Alnajjar and supervised by Dr. Ziad Abuelrub and Dr. Samer Gharableh from the pharmaceutical and chemical engineering department, School of Applied Medical Sciences (SAMS ).
This project was done in cooperation with Jordan Oil Shale Company ( JOSCO) to find quick and non-expensive methods for analyzing oil content in oil shale samples in the shale fields. Therefore, this will save time and cost.
GJU family congratulates the students and supervisors on winning these awards and wishes them more success.
