The German Ambassador in Amman, Bernhard Kempmann, and the President of the German Jordanian University, Professor Dr. Aladdin Al-Halhouli, inaugurated the selection ceremony of the winning logo in the annual competition organized by the embassy for students in the design and visual communication section of the Faculty of Architecture Engineering and Built Environment at the university, in order to design a logo that reflects seventy years of diplomatic relations between Jordan and Germany.
During the ceremony, Kempmann praised the outstanding performance of the department's students and the innovative designs they presented for the logo. Twenty-nine designs were submitted to the competition, three of which reached the final stage.
Kempmann added that it was not easy to choose the winning design logo for the event because of its uniqueness, so on such an occasion it is important to celebrate the creativity of all students involved and appreciate their efforts, especially that the logo will be used for a whole year.
On his part, Prof. Dr. Al-Halhouli expressed how proud he was of the students achievements as well as his gratitude for the distinguished diplomatic relations between Jordan and Germany, noting that the German-Jordanian University is considered a fundamental building block in these relations and an excellent example of cooperation between the two friendly countries.
Furthermore, the student Masa Al-Turk's logo was selected as the winning logo. She described the idea behind the logo, explaining that the main design element of the logo is focused on the Kufic script, one of the oldest forms of the Arabic calligraphy. Seeing that Germany and Jordan have developed close and friendly political relations over the years, this closeness is embodied in the logo through the implementation of the Kufic calligraphy.
Al-Turk added that the kufic font includes contiguous letters that are combined to form a shape together, so all letters must work together and adapt accordingly in order to create the piece. This formation and cross-linking of letters in Kufic script represents the relationship between Germany and Jordan."
Moreover, it is worth noting that the participation of students in the department in such competitions reflects the vision of the university in strengthening the communication link with the industry and as a result preparing students for the labor market.
