للدّكتور عبد العال العديد من الاهتمامات البحثيّة في مجالات الموارد المائيّة وجودة المياه. يُشارك حاليّاً في مشاريعَ بحثيّةٍ في المجالات التّالية:
تقليل تبخّر المياه باستخدام مجالات مُبتكَرة، مثل: الألواح الشّمسيّة العائمة.
إدارة مياه السّيول في مدينة البتراء الأثريّة.
دراسات الرّصد الهيدرولوجي لمناطقَ مختارةٍ من حوض الزّرقاء الرّئيسيّ.
النَّمذجة العدديّة لمشاريع الموارد المائيّة المختلفة.
