A roundtable discussion was held at GJU with the Vice –Chair of the Board, the United Nations Secretary General’s Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation, USA Prof. Uschi Eid and some staff members from GIZ on Wednesday 12 March, 2014.
The discussion highlighted the current environmental issues in the region, Water, Energy and Food Nexus, in particular solid waste management, in addition to Jordan’s overall resource scarcity. The discussion also included the prominent role that the “Water –Energy-Food Nexus” is playing in research and education.
Prof. Anton Mangstl, the Vice President for International Affairs, welcomed the guests and expressed GJU's interest in discussing waste management issues. He also emphasized that all parties should put efforts together to raise the awareness of the food, energy, water nexus.
For her part Prof. Uschi Eid, expressed her gratitude to GJU for being the host and wished that thisdiscussion with Knowledge transfer would result in a joint Project in water environment.
Furthermore, she stressed that they should galvanize the interest of the nexus debate, by committing to concrete programs and building strategic partnerships and alliances as we move into the future.
It is worth mentioning that Mr.Bassam Hayek from GIZ, and lecturer at PSUT, as well as a group of MA students from PSUT also joined the meeting in order to learn more about the term “Nexus” and to exchange thoughts on nexus –related topics.
The meeting was attended by the GJU President, Prof Natheer Abu.Obeid, the Vice President of GJU, Prof. Manar Fayyad , as well as some Directors , Deans and Professors at GJU.
