The German Jordanian University (GJU) inaugurated German Week 2025 today, welcoming distinguished guests, partners, and students to its campus. This event marks a vibrant celebration of two decades of German-Jordanian academic collaboration and lasting friendship.
Under the esteemed patronage of His Excellency, the German Ambassador to Jordan, German Week 2025 follows the theme “20 Years of German Support to the German Jordanian University.” Over four days, a range of activities, exhibitions, and discussions will showcase how twenty years of partnership have built enduring academic bridges, strengthened educational ties, fostered innovation, and expanded opportunities for collaboration between Jordan and Germany.
During the opening ceremony, GJU President, Prof. Ala'aldeen Al-Halhouli, welcomed attendees and reflected on the university’s journey. He emphasized that GJU’s achievements have been made possible through the generous support of German organizations and institutions, and the strong bond between the two nations.
Special guest speakers included Prof. Manuela Schwartz, President of Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences and member of the GJU Board of Trustees—whose university hosts the GJU Project Office—and Mr. Stefan Bienefeld, Head of Transnational Education at DAAD and DAAD’s representative on the GJU Board of Trustees. Both speakers highlighted the importance of deep cooperation and shared commitment in GJU’s ongoing success.
The opening day also featured representatives from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), GIZ, the Goethe-Institut, several German foundations, and partner German universities. Guests enjoyed booth exhibitions, interactive sessions, and campus tours, offering a firsthand look at the many opportunities made possible by this productive partnership.
