The German Jordanian University hosted a delegation from the German Jordanian Society (DJG), headed by its president, Mr. Helmut Henseler. The occasion took place at GJU’s Darat Othman Bdeir. The event aimed at introducing the University and its role in the development process of higher education and enhancing the bilateral ties between Jordan and Germany.

GJU’s President, Prof. Natheer Abu Obeid, welcomed the delegation and expressed his happiness to host a friendly meeting, which reflects the GJU’s mission to link with the society of Amman, and also enhancing its message of friendship to Germany, both cultural and academic.

 

He further underscored DJG’s continuous efforts in supporting the bilateral relations between Jordan and Germany.

 

Prof. Anton Mangstl stressed on the critical importance of the German year and how it helps students gain international experiences and improve their practical skills.

 

On his side, H. E. Mr. Ralph Tarraf, the German Ambassador, underlined the impact of the GJU as a permanent link between Jordan and Germany with its important students exchange programs. He also praised the role of the DJG and other related organizations, like the Jordanian German Friendship Society, their youth program and the Jordanian German Business Council representing the Jordanian and the German culture through its various programs and activities.

 

On his part, Mr. Henseler thanked GJU for their hospitality and emphasized that the DJG is keen to encourage intercultural awareness between German culture and Arab -Jordanian cultural spheres. The DJG is for over 50 years a stable link between Jordan and Germany, supporting the friendship between both countries through their activities, such as conferences, exhibitions, business contact and regular youth exchange programs.

 

Prof. Mohammad Yaghan, the Dean of the School of Architecture and Built Environment, briefed the participants about Darat Othman Bdeir, its mission and programs, and took the delegation afterwards on a tour through the buildings.

 

The delegation members and the guests, who represented different sectors, like academic and business, the social, political and the cultural parts as well as the youth of the Jordanian society used the opportunity for lively and interesting debates and formed new connections between Germany and Jordan.
