On Thursday, 19 June 2014, a delegation from the German Parliament visited the German Jordanian University in order to present the “International Parliamentary Scholarship of the German Bundestag” IPS.
The Member of the German Parliament, and Member of the Budget Committee of the German Parliament, Mr. Steffen-Claudio Lemme,outlined the importance of this cooperation and discussed enhancing the friendship between the two countries, adding that GJU is very successful model of applied sciences university, therefore many countries are looking for establishing a well educational model like GJU.
He also gave a detailed presentation about the IPS, in the presence of many students, stating that the program aims at supporting the democracy movement in the Arab-world since 2012, and supporting the young graduates who want to advance the transformation process in their home countries. In addition, he displayed a film that talks about the experience of group of graduates from different Arab countries in the German Parliament.
Prof. Natheer Abu Obeid , President of GJU welcomed the delegation and expressed his gratitude to the German actors for their continuous efforts in supporting GJU since its establishment in 2005, especially the Higher Education of Germany, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Embassy, the University of Magdeburg and the project Office of GJU in Magdebur
Furthermore, he asserted that GJU is devoted to excellence in teaching, learning, and developing leaders in many unique disciplines who make a difference for Jordan and globally. GJU Schools are engaged with teaching and research to push the boundaries of human knowledge among the German and the Jordanian cultures. For GJU graduates, who have the highest employment rate among the Jordanian universities, are eligible to work in the biggest global companies.
Moreover, Prof. Abu Obeid emphasized that GJU is an unparalleled university in the whole region, based on education for employability, and focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship, also it should be the cultural bridge between Jordan and the Arab world, and the European countries through Germany.
For their parts, the Director of the International Office, Dr. Dorothea Jecht thanked the German embassy for their cooperation with the university and highlighted the purpose of Flying Faculty Program; while the Director of Office for Industrial Links, Britta Kähler briefed about the efforts of establishing iceamman at GJU, that aims at spreading the spirit of entrepreneurship between students and staff, pointing out to the importance of the industrial links with the German companies and organizations.
It is worthy to mention that the meeting was attended by the GJU Vice President Prof. Manar Fayyad, in addition to the members of the delegation, MinDir Prof. Urlich Schoeler, Head of Section for Science and External Relations in the German Parliament, Dr. Angelena Goellnitz, International Exchange Programs and Coordinator for the Arab region, and Dr. Ines Geßner the Deputy Head of Mission - German Embassy.
