hellofood is the leading global online food delivery marketplace, active in more than 45 countries, has launched a scholarship program to cultivate the spirit of leadership and entrepreneurship among Jordan’s university students.

In 2014, hellofood Middle East decided to award one university student with JDs 500 as recognition for entrepreneurial talent and leadership ability based on a submitted essay outlining and solving a community problem.

The scholarship program will accept entries up to September 30, 2014, with candidates asked to submit a brief essay that identifies a specific problem in Jordan's community, and offers a viable solution. Marks will also be awarded for awareness of hellofood's business model and the consumer need it addresses.

While calling on university students across Jordan to show their entrepreneurial nous and leadership ability, CEO of hellofood Middle East Beschir Hussain said, “hellofood aims to encourage the spirit of enterprise and leadership at grassroots level. We believe it creates socio-economic opportunities and improves prosperity for the community as a whole. The Excellence Scholarship is our way of demonstrating our commitment to enterprise and innovation, and our belief in the potential of Jordan’s university student community. We encourage everyone to get involved, and submit innovative ideas that address specific concerns.”

hellofood is supplementing the HF Excellence Scholarship with an outreach programme across social media, advertising and direct marketing. Participants will benefit from regional awareness campaigns, and a chance to demonstrate initiative and original thought that is highly demanded by potential employers.

The winning candidate will not only have a grasp of basic business principles but also be aware of specific problems in the community that can be addressed through innovative business ideas. The jury is looking for initiative coupled with an understanding of market dynamics, all underpinned by a genuine desire to make a positive difference to the community. hellofood wants to encourage latent entrepreneurial talent in the Middle East and empower it to make a genuine difference,” Hussain added.

hellofood’s initiative is seeing support from Jordan’s higher education sector, which wants to foster better links between students and industry employers. German Jordanian University’s Director for the Office for Industrial Links Britta Kähler says, “Jordan’s university campuses are full of students with extraordinary potential. It is heartening to see prominent industry players such as hellofood stepping up to create opportunities for these students to hone their entrepreneurial skills and leadership talent, and make themselves known to potential employers.”

The essay submissions for the HF Excellence Scholarship must not exceed one A4 page in length, and will be adjudicated upon by a three-member jury comprising of hellofood’s top tier management. The winner will be picked based on the strength of submitted essay alone.
