In cooperation with the German Jordanian University and the Center for Global Politics at Freie University Berlin, the Global Politics Summer School Jordan 2014 started on the 11th of October, 2014.The Global Politics Seasonal Schools seek to raise awareness of the importance of multilateral cooperation and civic engagement among the 15 participating students from Germany and the Arab world, as they embark on careers in academia, business, government administration and media.
This year, the theme of the 12 day school covers the recent and historic developments of migration and urbanization in the Middle East. A special focus will be put on refugee issues in Middle East as well as in the European Union.
Prof. Anton Mangstl, Vice President welcomed the students at the GJU Training Center, and highlighted that the Global Politics Summer School will help the participants to understand the causes and effects of migration, refugee movements and urbanization.
For his part Dr. Klaus Segbers, Director of the Center for Global Politics at the FU Berlin, emphasized that the school aims at bringing together bright young minds from Middle East and Europe in order to look at current developments, to gain a more profound mutual understanding, and to promote intercultural dialogue. He also extended his thanks to the DAAD and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research for and supporting this program.
It is worthy to mention that the modules this year will touch upon new approaches to global politics, the interplay between domestic politics and global politics and regional responses to political and social challenges.
