A delegation from the German Parliament visited the German Jordanian University to review the IPS program “International Parliamentary Scholarship of the German Bundestag”.
The delegation members of the German Parliament, whom are also the committee in charge of choosing participants to engage in this program are: Manfred Zöllmer, a member of German Bundestag, Prof. Urlich Schöler, Vice-President of the ASGP and Prof. Christine Ahrend, 1st Vice-President-Research and Young Scientist.
During the meeting, the committee spoke about the IPS that gives well qualified young people with a strong interest in politics from the USA, France, Israel and Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of Germany's system of parliamentary government, also expressed hope to have a Jordanian young participant this year.
On the other hand, Prof. Manar Fayyad, the Vice President of GJU welcomed the delegation and said that the university is encouraging and supporting its students to participate in such a programs as they can get a great experience and meet highly profile people. She further briefed on the GJU, the excellence in teaching, the developed and unique majors and its distinguished students as well.
Mr.Zöllmer gave a presentation about the program, in the presence of many students and staff, stating that the IPS aims at supporting the democracy movement in the Arab-world since 2012, and supporting the young graduates who want to advance the transformation process in their home countries. In addition, they displayed a video that talks about the experience of group of graduates from different countries in the German Parliament.
At the end of the meeting, students addressed several topics and asked many questions about the selection process and the eligibility criteria.
It is worthy to mention that the meeting was attended by Dr. Dorothea Jecht, Director of International Office, Dr. Majed Abu Zreig, Dean of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Suhil Kiwan, Dean of School of Natural Resources Engineering and Management , Dr. Yaser Rajal the Assistant to the President for Communications and Public Relations, and Mr. Muneer Bani Younes, Director of Public Relations and Marketing Department.
