The German Jordanian University (GJU) signed a memorandum of understanding, with the Center of Hope (COH ) in order to enhance cooperation to establish a remarkable Center for Independent living for persons with special needs and disabilities.
The MoU was signed byDr. Akeel Al-Kazwini from the School of Medical Applied Sciences and the Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Yousef Abdullat on behalf of GJU, and Ms. Brigit Gassman and Mr. Aref Al.Sarkhi on behalf of the center. The MoU will ensure that GJU and COH will collaborate to establish a special center for persons with special needs and disabilities, containing many facilities for housing, training and administration to serve 50 persons with disability per year and to be located close to the GJU’s campus.
The center will also facilitate exchanges between persons living in the center as well as the staff and students of the GJU.
Furthermore, GJU is responsible of providing training opportunities for 1 to 3 residents of COH at the university’s campus without any further obligation of providing jobs for the trainees.
Prof. Manar Fayyad, the GJU Vice President emphasized that the university is keen to serve the local community and the individuals in different fields. She added that GJU would provide joint programs for persons with special needs to develop their skills and activate their role in society.
For her part , Ms. Gassman praised the GJU’s initiative and cooperation in establishing the center, pointing out that the center will provide educational services including academic lessons and trainings on independence , pronunciation, sports, housekeeping and Arts.
The signing was attended by Dr. Yasser Rajjal, Assistant to the President for Communications and Public Relations, Dr. Malyuba Abu-Daabes, Dean of School of Applied Medical Sciences in addition to the Directors of Presidency and Council Affairs and Department of Public Relations and marketing , Engineering and Finance.
