The School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) is pleased to announce the fruition of intensive efforts of applying for a partnership in the UN-Habitat led project titled: “Formulation of two urban strategic plans for Damazine and El Rosaries in the Blue Nile State”, thus securing the fund of 35,000 USD in a highly significant project on the regional level and realizing the GJU’s vision of regional cooperation and knowledge exchange.

SABE was granted the role of the regional partner in collaboration with the University of Khartoum to assist the municipal administration of the Blue Nile State in regional and urban strategic planning and is implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Public Utilities of the Blue Nile State aiming at formulating urban strategic plans for the cities of Damazine and El Rosaries.

 

SABE’s project team of urban specialists is actively involved in three training and capacity building sessions conducted at the campus of the University of Khartoum for planners and professionals from the Ministry of Planning in the Blue Nile State, who are directly involved in producing and implementing the plans. The sessions focus on critical issues such as participatory planning, land management, environmentally friendly construction and sustainable livelihoods, as well as assisting in developing the strategic plans for the two cities.

 

The project has been organized with the kind cooperation of Eng. Wael Al-Ashhab, Head of Country Programme at UN-Habitat in Sudan and the efforts of the Head of Department of Architecture and GJU, Team Leader Dr. Maram Tawil, with the team further consisting of Dr. Janset Shawash, Eng. Kamal Jalouqa, Dr. Muhammad Kadhim, Dr. Farouq Yaghmour and Dr. Rami Daher. SABE has already participated in conducting the organization session in the period of 10-11 March, and the first training session in the period 6-9 of April with very positive results.
