The German Jordanian University has participated in the 3rd German-Arab Water Forum, which was organized by the EMA (Euro-Mediterranean Association for Cooperation and Development). The Opening Session took place on May 31, 2015 in the premises of the Amman Chamber of Commerce. The many guests from Jordan and Germany were welcomed by the Chamber’s president HE Issa Haider Murad, former Federal President of Germany Mr. Christian Wulff , His Excellency Dr. Hazim El-Nasser , Minister of Water and Irrigation, and HE Dr. Talal Abu Ghazaleh. The keynote speech was delivered by HRH Prince Hassan bin Talal, Honorary President of EMA.
The Forum has discussed the strategic situation of the Kingdom in terms of Refugees and water demand in addition to the limited infrastructure. HRH Prince Hassan bin Talal has clearly stated that Jordan is enjoying the support of Germany’s experience in dealing with refugees and resources management and that those minds will transfer their ,,Know-How’’ to Jordan in order to tackle the challenges they have gone through. Mr. Christian Wulff has stressed out the very good relationship between Germany and Jordan on different levels and that it is Germany’s duty to support those countries struggling of scarce water resources, among them Jordan.
This Forum has presented three major issues: Water Supply and Infrastructure in Arab Refugee and Host Communities and the second issue was Sanitation and Sustainable Water Treatment Technology and finally Industry, Agriculture and Increasing Population. After the opening session, which was also attended by GJU’s president Dr. Natheer Abu Obeid and other GJU faculty members, the different topics were elaborated in several workshops.
GJU presented a booth in the exhibition through the support of the Office for Industrial Links and the Water and Environmental Engineering department at GJU.
