Princess Rahma Bint Al Hassan visited the School of Architecture and Built Environment of the German Jordanian University located in Amman down town, on 15 September 2015. Her Royal Highness toured the college; an old building donated by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the University the Engineer Othman Bdeir and restored by the university.

 

Her Royal Highness considered the idea of moving the School to old Amman a brave decision made by the university, a quality addition to the surrounding area and an inspiration to be followed by many institutions. She also pointed out the importance of benefiting from the experience of the University in opening areas for vocational education.

 

Prof. Natheer Abu Obeid, GJU President,  talked about the overall impact of the School on the local community and the surrounding area in terms of revitalizing the region, reviving the market of the down town area, developing the property of the locals and working on the integration of the School with the area of Jabal Amman.

 

For his part Dr. Mohammed Yaghan, Dean of the School, pointed out that the experience and success achieved by the School in old Amman affected the students’ experience and their graduation projects, which were commensurated with the general character of the area.

 

Her Royal Highness attended a part of the conference on the contribution of the university in Green Amman’s project 2020 in cooperation with Greater Amman Municipality, which is part of the initiative “Green Jordan” that icludes various architectural and graphical designs incorporating modernity and contemporary.

 

Her Royal Highness also praised the maintenance work carried out by the college to renovate the home of former Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Hashim donated by Greater Amman Municipality to preserve the ancient heritage of Amman.

 

The conference was attended by President of the University, the Dean of the School of Architecture and Built Environmental, director of the project Green Amman 2020 Mr. Emad Al Dabbas and Deputy Mayor of Amman Mr. Amjad Herzallah.

 

It is worth mentioning that the rehabilitation stage for the School started in 2011. The School was officially opened in 2013 under the patronage of Her Royal Highness, Princess Muna Al Hussein.
