Sankt Augustin – Germany – In an effort to foster international links and strengthen ties with German Universities, president of GJU – Prof. Dr. Natheer Abu-Obeid signs a cooperation agreement with Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, Germany for a mutual exchange program between the Master Programs in Autonomous Systems and in Computer Engineering.

This cooperation translates the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II, with regard to modernizing the teaching and learning and reflects GJU's emphasis on programs that will bring about positive results by bridging the gap between the output of education and research, on the one hand, and the needs and demands of the job market, on the other.

The agreement will open up venues of cooperation in all academic matters including joint scientific research, student and staff exchange as well as co-teaching assignments, workshops, and joint supervision of theses. Students enrolled at the Master of Computer Engineering at GJU shall have the option to spend one exchange semester at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) and vice versa.

Prof. Dr. Natheer Abu-Obeid, president of GJU stated: “The university's mission has been to strengthen links with German universities to build highly skilled labor force capable of contributing to Jordan's development and economic prosperity. Through the cooperation with H-BRS, GJU will be able to establish new expertise and knowledge in the specialization of autonomous systems known as one of the most important disciplines in today’s industry in manufacturing automation, transport technology, and robotics”.

Prof. Dr. Hartmut Ihne, president of H-BRS said: “We are looking back on a long-standing cooperation between GJU and H-BRS dating back until the founding year of GJU in 2005. Since then it has been our constant endeavor to elaborate and consolidate the liaison of our two institutions, which has lead to various joint projects and collaboration in many fields. We are very proud of our strong cooperation and we will take advantage of this cooperation agreement to consolidate our common efforts towards mutual student and staff exchange on the Master of Autonomous System”

Prof. Dr. Salem Al-Agtash, dean of graduate studies at GJU, indicated: “This cooperation will add a new international dimension to the graduate programs and will allow students to spend a semester or more at H-BRS as part of their academic career towards enriching their research experience. Exchanges of students and staff in the framework of this agreement will commence in the Spring semester of 2016”.

Prof. Dr. Rainer Herpers, director of graduate institute at H-BRS, emphasized: "These new activities are adding up on the already existing ones but now open the doors to strengthen collaborative research in dynamic scientific fields like Robotics and Computer Engineering. We are looking forward to attract highly skilled graduate students from both institutions to take advantage of this unique opportunity."
