Amman- 13 April, 2106

Engineer Abdullah Freij welcomed German and English for Business Communication (GEBC) students from the School of Applied Humanities and Languages (SAHL) to a short tour of the Development and Employment Fund (DEF).

The goal of the visit was to introduce the students to the various social projects the fund has supported through government loans in the Kingdom. The vision of the fund is to encourage employment through self-driven projects. One of the conditions is that the applicant has to be unemployed during the time he or she applies for a loan. The loans the fund offer are of a minimum interest rate (Murabaha).

DEF is one of the government institutions who received The King Abdullah II Award for Excellence.  The main group of people DEF works on improving their social and professional status in society are those in the far and small governorates. DEF aims to decrease poverty in the different governorates by providing them with opportunities to earn money and assist others in their governorates to find jobs through DEF funded projects. This notion of social responsibility is also found in the student loans DEF offers to students who want to continue their studies but haven’t got sufficient funding to do so.

Thereafter, the students were given an overview about the success stories and projects the fund has accomplished so far through enhancing local talents and promoting the professional and social fields in local communities.

In addition, the students got the chance to inquire about internship prospects, work opportunities, and research topics for their Bachelor projects at DEF. The communication and social aspects of DEF were of great interest for GEBC students and therefore hope to contribute to the fund’s future projects.
