Amman- October 9, 2016
Happy New beginning to everyone! With big hopes we are welcoming a new academic year. And to our new coming students: I welcome you all as new members of the GJU family, and wish you all success in your study.
It is my pleasure to address you and promise you that all efforts will be made by myself and all GJU staff to sustain the great reputation and achievements that have been built over the years. We usually present our university as a lighthouse that works as a German machine. GJU is applying two pronged strategic approaches; first putting knowledge into practice as modeled on the German universities of applied sciences, and 2nd by promoting German knowledge transfer. In GJU’s effort to pursue and achieve its goals, and fulfill its mission, it has succeeded in creating a fruitful partnership with more than 110 German universities. This is in addition to hundreds of contacts with German companies. Another major achievement by the GJU is working closely and effectively with German institutions such as the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, DAAD, GIZ and the German embassy to establish the distinguished partnership that we are currently enjoying. We will work to further develop and take all necessary steps to sustain this cooperation with our German friends and partners.
As of today, GJU has more than 4200 students, with more than 400 of them as postgraduate students. These students are enrolled in 18 undergraduate programs and 9 postgraduate programs. Some of these programs are in collaboration with German universities. A new important concept that is also being introduced is our “Program for Innovation and Entrepreneurship” (PIE). This program comes as a manifestation of our slogan for the coming decade, which is E for E & E: Education for employment and entrepreneurship. With the collaboration of our great German partners and my qualified and enthusiastic team of Deans and administrative officers, it will be possible to achieve this smoothly.
It takes future leaders to help us overcome our many regional obstacles. I hope that this institution is truly participating in qualifying you as leaders who can reshape our future. We count on you to develop our society, and hope that you would enable us to bridge the gaps between the way we think and that of the developed world. In this context, the German Jordanian University would be proud to also consider itself a gate of hope towards a better future. And you are the hope of our tomorrow.
So, don’t stop thinking about tomorrow.
President
Natheer Abu Obeid
