البروفيسور الواكد هو أستاذ الهندسة الميكانيكية الذي أثبت خبرته كقائد أكاديمي وإداري. لقد تعرض لبيئة عمل متعددة الثقافات ويعتبر نفسه محظوظًا للعمل مع أشخاص من خلفيات مختلفة. في الآونة الأخيرة، تم تصنيف البروفيسور الواكد بين أفضل 2٪ من العلماء في العالم وفقًا لجامعة ستانفورد.

قام الأستاذ الدكتور الواكد بتصميم وتقديم وتقييم دورات هندسية في جامعة نيو ساوث ويلز (UNSW) - أستراليا، جامعة ظفار (DU) - عمان، جامعة الأمير محمد بن فهد (PMU) - المملكة العربية السعودية وفي الكلية الأسترالية. الكويت (ACK) - الكويت. شارك في تطوير المناهج وتقييمها بالإضافة إلى تقديم دورات قصيرة وورش عمل تدريبية. طوال حياته التدريسية، شارك البروفيسور الواكد في أساليب التدريس التفاعلية والتعاونية والقائمة على المشاريع. علاوة على ذلك، كان البروفيسور الواكد عضوًا رئيسيًا في تطوير البرامج وفرق ضمان الجودة المسؤول عن تطوير الأعمال الورقية المطلوبة للاعتماد الجامعي (OAAA، NCAAA، ABET).

يتمتع الأستاذ الدكتور الواكد بأكثر من 15 عامًا من البحث والتطوير في مجالات الأنظمة الفعالة والمستدامة للطاقة والمبادلات الحرارية وديناميكيات السوائل الحسابية. حتى الآن، نشر أكثر من 80 مقالاً في مجلات ووقائع مؤتمرات معترف بها مع مؤلفين مشاركين من أستراليا والولايات المتحدة ونيوزيلندا والمملكة العربية السعودية والأردن وماليزيا. أنشأ البروفيسور الواكد مشاريع بحثية تعاونية مع زملاء من جامعة بتروناس للتكنولوجيا (UTP)- ماليزيا. كخبير في مجالات الطاقة وديناميكيات السوائل الحسابية كان البروفيسور الواكد حكمًا نشطًا في عدد من المجلات الدولية ومؤسسات تمويل الأبحاث.
